We are thrilled to announce that the recipient of this year’s Killeen Affordable Chiropractic scholarship is Aimee Sunderlin! Aimee shared some of her inspiring journey that brought her to this significant milestone.
A Journey of Resilience and Determination
Aimee’s story is one of perseverance, a testimony to her indomitable spirit. As a fresh college student, Aimee was eager to immerse herself in the quintessential “college experience,” albeit without a clear vision of life post-graduation. The financial burden of a private school education soon became a reality, leaving her with a substantial amount of student debt.
Serving the Community with AmeriCorps
Undeterred by the financial challenges, Aimee chose to serve her community through AmeriCorps, dedicating three years to tutoring and mentoring at-risk youth. Despite the modest living stipend, this period honed her ability to live frugally while fostering financial independence.
Building a Career at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired
Aimee’s journey then led her to the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI), where she has devoted eight years, nurturing and guiding the students in the residential department. Although the role came with its financial constraints, Aimee climbed the ranks, securing promotions and gradually increasing her earnings. This period also saw her triumph over her student debt, a remarkable achievement that speaks volumes about her financial prudence and determination.
Embarking on a New Path in Nursing
As Aimee stands on the cusp of a career shift towards nursing, she carries with her the wisdom garnered from her past experiences. She is fully aware of the financial hurdles that lie ahead in pursuing an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Yet, her commitment to financial responsibility remains steadfast, ready to embrace the challenges with a mature understanding of the implications.

Aimee Sunderlin is a symbol of resilience, a person who has consistently shown that with determination and a heart to serve, one can overcome any obstacle. As she embarks on this new chapter, we are confident that Aimee will bring the same dedication and compassion to the nursing profession, touching lives and making a difference.
